Kaweah Health Medical Center has welcomed Porterville High School as the newest addition to its partnership with Tulare and Kings County Career Technical Education programs. This collaboration provides high school students with hands-on healthcare experience in a professional medical setting.
"By welcoming students into our facilities, we give them a firsthand look at what a future in healthcare entails while inspiring them to pursue careers that make a difference in people's lives," said Dianne Cox, Kaweah Health chief human resource officer.
Students volunteer across various hospital departments game practical experience in patient care and essential healthcare skills. The Porterville High Academy of Health Sciences joins existing program participants from Visalia, Hanford, Orosi, Tulare, and Lindsay.
“This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to providing students with rigorous, career-connected learning experiences that prepare them for college, careers, and beyond,” said Cindy Brown, director of Pathways for Porterville Unified School District.
The choice to work with Kaweah Health came down to the hospital’s commitment to patient care, medical excellence, and dedication to workforce development, said Magdalena Echevesta, Lead Teacher at PAHS.
“We are beyond excited to partner with Kaweah Health, confident that this collaboration will provide students with on-demand medical industry skills through direct interactions with medical staff and patients,” Eshevesta said.
