AERO Students Convert Campus Cart to Solar

Porterville High AERO (Academy of Energy and Resource Occupations) Pathway students recently converted one of the campus utility carts to a solar-charging vehicle. They installed a 175-watt polycrystalline solar module on the roof of the cart and a boost charge controller to boost the 36 volts DC higher to 53 volts to be able to charge the 48-volt electrical system on the cart. It allows more run time between charges and keeps the batteries in good shape by charging whenever the cart is in the sun.
